It’s truth in advertising if I ever saw it.
After all, you couldn’t come up with a more apt name for a race held in mid August in Florida than the St. George Island Sizzler. Now in its 16th year, this Tate's Hell Track Club event boils onto the serene Island Aug. 10, 2013, at 6 p.m. It features a one mile fun run and 5K race benefiting the Franklin County Humane Society.
If you don’t want to run, come for the fun.
Post race awards and a party will be held at the Lighthouse Pavilion, in the center of the Island. You can enjoy fresh local seafood and beverages, clap for the winners -- or pick up your award.
Insider’s Tip: The race is the perfect excuse to discover St. George Island, a pristine, 22-mile-long Barrier Island near Apalachicola Bay. St. George Island State Park was included on the list of top ten beaches in the country this year by “Dr. Beach,” Professor Stephen P. Leatherman of Florida International University.
It’s a sizzling hot beach, if I don’t say so myself!
