Close your eyes and imagine. You’re driving down 30A, one of Florida’s most scenic routes, when you pull into a tiny town.
The air smells salty and fresh, the streets are fringed with towering palms, and ivory-hued buildings draw the eye. The Gulf glitters an impossible turquoise, and the beach is an endless sweep of sugar sand. A sense of order, tranquility, simplicity and beauty prevail.
Welcome to Alys Beach.
You can discover this peaceful village on Sept. 1, 2013, during the Alys Beach 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run. The course winds through town and ends with music, food, and beverages in the Amphitheatre. The event also features an oversized obstacle course for kids of all ages.
The price to participate in the certified 5K is $35, and is $10 for the 1 Mile Fun Run (kids 12 and younger only, please). The 5K starts at 8 a.m. and the 1 Mile Fun Run begins at 9:30 a.m. Register now as space is limited for runners, and please show up half an hour early the day of the race.
But that race is just the tip of the sandbar!
After you rest up during the day—or take the opportunity to explore Alys Shoppe, George’s Restaurant or the pedestrian trails – make sure to show up for the Free Concert and Fireworks, 6-9 p.m. The Atlanta Allstars will provide live music, followed by fireworks at 8:45. Bring blankets and low back chairs.
