I love pirates.
Not real ones, of course. Just ones that give me a good excuse to visit a favorite beach. It wouldn’t hurt if they resembled Johnny Depp, either, though I suppose that’s too much to ask.
Fort Myers Beach is preparing to be invaded by salty sailors in the 8th Annual Fort Myers Beach Pirate Festival, Oct. 11-13, 2013. The event begins with some favorite pirate activities
– namely singing songs and drinking ale – at 6 p.m. on Oct. 11 with a Pub Crawl along Old San Carlos Boulevard.
The fun continues on the weekend with Pirate Parades, a Pirates’ Ball, period vendors, costume contests, and activities for the wee ones, including a children’s fishing tournament, stage shows, a treasure hunt, and face painting. Plus, the restaurants and bars will be open late.
The highlight of both Saturday and Sunday will be epic: a ship to shore sea battle complete with blazing cannons, plundering pirates and sailing ships.
It sounds like fun, and I do love Fort Myers Beach, so maybe I should go. I wonder if any of the pirates will look like Johnny. I so adore those little braids he has…
