When the sun goes down, the fun is just beginning in and around Orlando. Here are some ways to experience it:

Climb to the Moon

You’ll find Florida’s tallest lighthouse on the shores of Ponce Inlet, about an hour from Orlando. This handsome, red sentinel is beautiful inside, with a spiral staircase that twists smaller and tighter the higher you go. And you can climb it by the light of a full moon. On the Full Moon Lighthouse Tour, the old lighthouse keeper leads you on a journey into the past, explaining the unique history of this National Historic Landmark. When you reach the top, the world will stretch below in a vast panorama. Toast the setting sun with sparkling cider and gasp at the rising moon, reflecting its glory on the surf. Tickets must be purchased in advance by calling 386- 761-1821, ext. 10. http://www.daytonabeach.com/calendar.cfm/mode/details/id/14679/recurringId/35979/climb-to-the-moon-at-ponce-inlet-lighthouse

You’ll shiver at tales of its shady past and of Church Street Station, a hotbed of paranormal activity.  During the second half of the tour, you’ll explore of one of several haunted buildings.  You’ll be given an EMF (electromagnetic field) detector, but you’re welcome to bring your own recording devices as well. Watch an Ancient Beach Ritual

A Turtle Walk is simple, perfect and unforgettable. Orlando is less than an hour from Brevard County, the largest sea turtle nesting area in the Western Hemisphere. Thanks to the Sea Turtle Preservation Society, during June and July of each year you can watch the magic unfold. You’ll soak up an educational presentation about sea turtles while volunteer teams scout the location of nesting Loggerheads. Then, under the cover of darkness, you’ll tiptoe out to the shore to observe a mother Loggerhead sea turtle laying her eggs. Zip into Adventure

Climbing a towering platform, hooking a carabineer to a line and flying over the treetops definitely qualifies as a rush – but you don’t know what the word means until you’ve done it by moonlight! On Zip Orlando’s Moon Zip Night Tour, you can watch Disney’s fireworks from your perch overlooking 2,700 acres of vast Florida wilderness. The guides will be carrying low-light lanterns; you’ll be clutching your own personal glow stick. As you soar above the wilds the eerie light will make the adventure even more unforgettable. http://www.ziporlando.com/index.cfm/our-tours1/
