Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful. ~ Norman Vincent Peale
To me, it’s the sweet, simple rituals of the season that soothe my soul into the holiday spirit. It’s a turkey, emerging from the oven, glorious and golden. It’s the sharp perfume of pine trees. It’s the warm glow of being surrounded by loved ones.
And the sight of parading vessels -- sparkling with lights that reflect in the water and shine like a million stars -- also does the trick rather nicely.
If you could stand a dose of holiday cheer, make sure to catch Pensacola’s Lighted Boat Parade, Dec. 6, 2013, 7 p.m., from Little Sabine Bay to Boardwalk. Dozens of captains will compete for prizes as the nautical parade officially delivers Santa Claus to the Island.
Children will be given light sticks to illuminate the landing site, and they can whisper into Santa’s ear at his workshop at Bamboo Willie's.
Of course the event is free. It’s Christmastime, silly!
