The great outdoors stir my heart.
I smile when I see ospreys riding the sea breeze and pelicans diving into the waves. My toes are happy when I bury them in white sand. And I like nothing better than exploring trails, marshes and beaches, whether on foot or via kayak or bicycle.
If, like me, you’re a fan of nature, you won’t want to miss the Great Outdoor Adventure Day, Dec. 7, 2013, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Lovers Key State Park (8700 Estero Blvd, Fort Myers Beach, FL 33931).
Held at the Kayak Launch /Picnic Area of the Park, the fun includes food, music, touch tanks, children’s activities, as well as Ranger-led programs.
Rangers and volunteers will offer information and an opportunity to see the park through programs such as guided kayak tours, walking nature tours, Black Island bike tours (bikes and helmets provided), geocaching, and fishing clinics. Exhibitors will include local environmental organizations, as well as outdoor equipment and healthy lifestyle vendors.
This community-based event is free with regular park entrance of $8 per vehicle of up to eight people, $4 for a single occupant and $2 per pedestrian or cyclist. Guided kayak tours will be $10 per person, kayak rental included.
Bring your family or bring a friend, but go. And be prepared to fall head-over-heels with Lovers Key!
