Never approach a bull from the front, a horse from the rear, or a fool from any direction. ~ Unknown
Adult bulls weigh as much as 2,200 pounds. They are as agile as cats, as powerful as freight trains, and often have exceptionally cranky dispositions.
So you can only imagine what cowboys feel like when they squeeze into a narrow chute atop one of these beasts. They give a nod of their heads when they’re ready for the gate to open. When it does, it’s a virtual explosion of hooves, bucking and spinning, with the bulls intent on sending their riders flying.
You can watch this crazy sport in the World Wide Rodeo, Nov. 8-9, 2013, at St. Johns County Fairgrounds (5840 State Route 207, Elkton, phone: 904-845-7492) as well as breakaway calf team roping, barrel racing, chute dogging, and a free calf scramble for wranglers 10 years and younger.
The Rodeo starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $12 for ages 13 and up, $7 for ages 6 - 12, and 5 years and under are free.
Remember, if you can't handle the ride, don't climb into the chute!
