In the Sunshine State, most folks lay back on New Year’s Day. Some soak up rays by the beach, some cheer on their favorite football teams, and others indulge in game of golf.
But then there are those who dare to bear -- the hardy, brave souls who ring in the first day of 2014 by taking a dip into the Gulf of Mexico at high noon.
The emerald-hued waters of the Flora-Bama (17401 Perdido Key Drive, Pensacola, FL, 32507) will be churning with daring dippers in the annual Polar Bear Dip. You can dress up or just show up for this special day. The Flora-Bama provides the traditional feast of black-eyed peas, cornbread, ham and more for those who take the plunge.
I’m not going to make it this year, but if I was there, I guarantee you I’d take part.
At least, that’s my story. And I’m sticking to it.
