Anna Maria Island Beach Run Creates a fit of Fun

Anna Maria Island is a tiny sliver of sugar sand, only seven miles long, and so narrow you can often see the Gulf and the bay at the same time.

It’s the kind of place you can eat in an open air café right on the beach, enjoying the sound of the surf along with your grouper sandwich. It doesn’t have any high rises, and its waters tend to be very clear, shallow and calm.

I can’t imagine a better place for a run on the beach.

Florida Fit Fest invites you to do just that in their 2nd 5K Treasure Run and Fitness Competition on Coquina Beach (2650 Gulf Drive Bradenton Beach, FL 34217 Bradenton, FL), Aug. 31, 2013. The event features a run (or a walk or a crawl, you just need to finish), plus a team fitness competition which includes a Tire Roll, a Tug Of War and a men’s and women’s fitness contest.

It offers trophies plus the chance to win an iPad mini and other prizes. Never mind a great excuse to discover the Island.

Besides, you should take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live in!

Details: Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. on Race Day. The Treasure Run begins at 9 a.m. and costs $35 to enter. Proceeds benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Bradenton.
