Hey, Fort Lauderdale, Eat Your Art Out


Check out this deliciously creative idea brought to you by the foodies and artists at the Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment District in Fort Lauderdale. 

The “Eat Your Art Out” 5 for 5 package series during February and March 2013 invites guests to dine at some of downtown Fort Lauderdale’s most popular restaurants, then take an art class at the AutoNation Academy of Art + Design at Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale. 

Monday, Feb. 18: SoLita Italian Restaurant, Painting Class

Guests will begin their evening at SoLita to enjoy a delectable menu of Italian favorites. Following the dining experience, enjoy a painting class with a focus on perspective, composition, gesture and the representation of form and space. 

Monday, Feb. 25: Indigo Restaurant at Riverside Hotel, Ceramics Class

Begin at Indigo Restaurant at the Riverside Hotel, and enjoy excellent service and its impressive menu of deliciously fresh seafood, savory steaks, light bites and much more. After dinner, get your hands into some clay with a ceramics class. Each student will throw a vessel on the wheel with ceramist Brett Thomas.

Monday, March 4: Tarpon Bend, Drawing Class

Head over to Tarpon Bend, to the evening with a fresh catch of the day. Then, try your hand at a drawing class. Students will work from still life set-ups as they consider perspective, proportion, and volumetric rendering of objects. 

Monday, March 11: Grille 401, Printmaking Class

The night will begin at Grille 401, followed by an evening in the printmaking studio. Demonstrations of various printmaking techniques will be explored using hands-on, step-by-step processes in printmaking, including silk screen, etching, and monoprinting. 

Monday, March 18: YOLO, Digital Arts Class

The ever popular YOLO will be the first stop of the night. Then enjoy an interactive lecture and exploration of the creative process and fundamentals of graphic design and visual communication during a digital arts class in the Academy’s state-of-the-art Mac computer lab. Students will experiment with Photoshop and Illustrator. 

If you go: The 5 for 5 package series is available for $250 per person, or any one of the evenings including dinner and art class can be purchasedindividually for $65 per person. The package or individual cost includes three-course prix fixe menu options at each of the participating restaurants, class instruction and supplies.
