I am so spoiled to live in a state with so many talented (and famous!) celebrity chefs. From Emeril Lagasse in Northwest Florida to Michelle Bernstein in Miami, there's some serious talent here in Florida's restaurants.
The newest chef to claim fame is Chef Joe Rego. In 2012 he was named "Chopped Champion" on the popular Food Network show where he competed with four other chefs to create extraordinary meals from obscure ingredients. Now, Chef Rego is heading up The Front Porch, a seafood restaurant in Tallahassee that has southern flair with a Portuguese twist.
"Competing on Chopped was one of the most intense experiences of my life, but it was also one of the most rewarding," Rego said. "This show has opened new doors for me, including the opportunity to join the Tallahassee community. As an avid fisherman and lover of all things seafood, I'm thrilled to be able to combine all my interests with the opening of The Front Porch."
The menu has an emphasis on using locally sourced ingredients and their Raw Bar is sure to please with its make-your-own ceviche menu.
