If you're looking for a great beachside dining spot to kindle a little romance and watch the sunset, look no further than The Sandpearl on Clearwater Beach. Here you'll find two fabulous dining choices with some of the best views in Florida.

Casually sophisticated and located right next to the sand, Tate Island Grill offers tasty light bites, delicious entrees and a variety of frozen beverages to help you get into your vacation vibe. Pick a cozy hightop under a beach umbrella and watch the sunset while snacking on their black bean and roasted sweet corn hummus or Florida jumbo shrimp martini. My favorite meal there is the Sugarcane Shrimp Salad with mango, plantains and chili lime dressing. It's light, delicious, and packed full of Floribbean flavor. After dinner, walk out onto the beach or lounge around their fire pit in an adirondack chair -- perfect for the cooler weather this time of year.

As Clearwater's only Four-Diamond beachfront dining, Caretta is perfect for special occasions such as wedding engagements, anniversaries or birthdays. Located on the resort's lobby level, you're elevated one floor above the beach, which offers a spectacular perspective overlooking the ocean. Caretta's motto is, "savor the view" and their location and menu certainly live up to that statement. The style of food is hard to label as Caretta offers a delicious fresh farm-to-table mix of everything from sushi to steaks, and even a buffalo ribeye. To give you an example of what I mean, and to make your mouth water, here's what I tried while dining at Caretta On The Gulf:

  • Diver Scallops with Kurobuta Pork Belly, creamed corn, charred scallions and white truffle.
  • Beet and Arugula Salad with golden beets, candied walnuts, a French Bucheron goat cheese, all drizzled with a sherry vinaigrette.
  • Peruvian Purple Potato Gnocchi with thumbelina carrots, heirloom tomatoes and golden beets over a spinach pesto cream.
After tasting a little fresh seafood, a little pork and a colorful vegetarian entree -- I had no room for dessert. But that gives me a great excuse to go back and visit for some champagne and sweets while watching the sunset.
