With the weather cooling off there is no better time to go out and catch a largemouth bass. These tackle busters are Florida’s premiere freshwater species and a must on every angler’s life list.

If you need another reason to go catch the legendary bucketmouth, the state’s new TrophyCatch program also started Oct. 1. So if you hook and release a monster bass, you can get your catch certified and be eligible to win some pretty great prizes.

All you have to do is land a bass that weighs more than 8 pounds. Bass in the 8- to 9.9-pound range earn a spot in the Lunker Club. Bass in the 10- to 12.9-pound range are eligible for the Trophy Club. Bass that are heavier than 13 pounds (and certified by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission) will be entered into the Hall of Fame Club.
