My 8-year-old, Devon, wasn’t afraid as he navigated the Sky Trail Ropes Course. He was about 80 feet above the ground, then he walked the plank and rang the bell, alerting everyone to his achievement. Afterward, he ziplined across the lagoon! This was just some of the fun we discovered at the Village of Baytowne Wharf in Sandestin.
Baytowne Wharf is the entertainment, shopping, dining and festival headquarters of this northwest Florida area. You’ll find it on property at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort. This is THE place to go for a day or night of fun – and you can bring your entire family, from the grandparents to little ones in strollers.
The Baytowne Adventure Zone is where you can feed your hunger for adrenaline. They offer two rope challenges including the new Sky Trail Ropes Course, Euro Bungy, a rock wall and a zipline back and forth across the lagoon.
Since I prefer to get my heart racing by shopping, I was happy to explore the shops and boutiques. but my heart skipped a beat when I discovered the San Gelato Café.
Voted “most authentic gelato in the country” by USA Today, this is a true Italian experience. Owners Simona Faroni and Guido Tremolini moved here from Italy in 1996 with the dream of bringing authentic Italian gelato to America, and they have succeeded! Just close your eyes as you taste and you’ll think you’re standing in Piazza San Marco in Venice. It’s heavenly. They also have fresh sandwiches, salads, pizza, wraps, bruschettas and other fine desserts. San Gelato Cafe was my favorite discovery of the day. I bet it will be yours, too.
The Village of Baytowne Wharf also holds numerous festivals, concerts and family-friendly events throughout the year. View their 2012 Calendar of Events.
