If there was ever a beach in Florida that made me think I'd stepped into some exotic Mediterranean local, it'd have to be Alys Beach. Located along 30A and one of South Walton's 15 beaches, this oceanside community looks like no other in the state. Two white Moroccan style towers welcome visitors to the area where the pristine, white stucco buildings against a backdrop of emerald seas have you feeling like you've drifted into a dreamworld. The minimalist architecture accented with hand-painted tiles and wrought iron is showcased at the community's Caliza Pool where you may even find a few vacationing celebrities warming up in the Florida sun. Forbes.com has named Alys Beach 'America's Best Spot for the Design-Savvy,' and I'd say it's definitely beach glam with a bit of casual luxury.
While visiting Alys Beach, I recommend grabbing a bite to eat at George's where you'll find two distinct sides to their menu. Depending on your mood, you can choose between "behave" or "misbehave." On the "misbehave" side, you'll find crispy fried indulgences such as George's Fried Oyster Tacos or their wickedly good dinner entree, Bone In Rib Eye with Whiskey Butter. But if you want to keep your figure fit for Hollywood, take a peak at the delicious selection on the "behave" side of the menu which includes soups, salads and spa-inspired cuisine. I ordered George's grilled fish tacos which were amazing!
There are all kinds of fun events coming up including their Cinema Under The Stars and Spring Concert Series. With it's quiet, relaxed atmosphere and selection of beautiful vacation homes, Alys Beach is the perfect luxury getaway.
