Learn to Dive in Florida

The Sunshine State is one of the best places in the world to dive, and it's home to the only living coral reef in the continental United States.

Learning to scuba dive unlocks a whole new world, and it’s easy to get hooked. Without the need to surface for air, there’s a neverending underwater landscape to explore and countless animals and plants to see.

There are shops all around the state where you can learn. Don’t worry about buying equipment yet. Most shops rent everything you will need. Here are a few of the best places to dive in Florida.

Crystal River

Crystal River and King’s Bay are known for their manatee snorkel tours, but divers also come here to explore crystal-clear springs as well as caves in the surrounding areas. Bird’s Underwater Inc. is just one of several dive shops here. birdsunderwater.com

Fort Lauderdale

With 23 miles of beaches, Fort Lauderdale is a popular place to explore shipwrecks. Sea Experience is a good place to start. seaxp.com

Florida Keys

Home to John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park in Key Largo, where the only living coral reef in the continental U.S. is located. floridastateparks.org/pennekamp
