Amelia Island Museum of History: Big on Information, Small on Price

Florida is home to some big-name museums: the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Miami...

But never underestimate the local history museum. These unassuming venues are packed with information that'll enhance your trip, for a price that'll enhance your wallet.

On a recent trip to Amelia Island, Hubby and I spent a few hours learning about Fernandina Beach at the Amelia Island Museum of History.

The $7 adult admission price included a docent-led tour. Good luck buying a headset for that price at larger museums! The tour is held Monday through Saturday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., and every Sunday at 2 p.m.

In addition to the traditional tour, the museum offers a variety of fun ways to learn the area:

  • Student tours, which include a walking tour of the town's historic district.
  • Tours of Centre Street, the town's main shopping and dining thoroughfare.
  • Ghost tours. Ooohhh...
  • Pub tours.
  • Holiday home tours.
  • And more! Check out all the offerings on the museum's tours webpage.
