Driving up to Turnberry Isle Miami underneath a canopy of gracefully tall palm trees, you're sure to feel like a celebrity getting ready to walk out onto the red carpet. And with Aventura Mall just across the street, the shopping is even bigger and better then the west coast's legendary Rodeo Drive. Being the Dining Insider, I was here to check out the food scene and had plans to meet friends at Bourbon Steak, celebrity chef Michael Mina’s modern twist on the classic American steakhouse, located within the Turnberry Isle Hotel & Resort.

Upon arriving, the resort staff greet you with a friendly smile and Gatsby-like charm. Their recent change in management with a focus on personal touches and attention to detail is evident. As Managing Director Douglas Hustad describes, "You really don’t have to just be a member or guest to enjoy the luxurious pampering for which Turnberry Isle is renowned.” That is certainly true!

Before dinner, I took a walk around the classy, yet relaxed Mediterranean-style resort. I loved its old-world Florida feel with lush tropical landscaping, trickling water fountains and even a 100-plus-year-old banyan tree. I was most impressed by their vegetable, fruit and herb garden where I discovered a chef clipping rosemary to bring back to the kitchen. Farm-to-table dining is a popular trend right now, and it was great to see that Turnberry Isle had incorporated a chef's garden right on property.

After touring the resort, I made my way back to Bourbon Steak where the entrance dazzles you with all the modern glitz and glamour that Miami is known for, but with a warmth and sophistication that makes you feel welcome. My favorite dish on the menu was their unique seafood twist on a classic comfort food: Maine Lobster Pot Pie with truffle cream and seasonal vegetables. After tasting their pot pie and one of their juicy steaks, I barely had room for dessert. I'm certainly glad I had a beach run scheduled in the morning because I couldn't pass up their fresh made beignets with vanilla bean creme brulee for dipping... it was TO-DIE-FOR!

Bourbon Steak is definitely on the must-taste list for Miami!
