After taking in the glitz and glamour of the sparkling Sunny Isles Beach Miami skyline, it was refreshing to experience a change of pace the following week on the opposite side of Florida's peninsula in Naples, Florida.
La Playa Naples generously hosted me and a friend for a quick girlfriend's getaway. Unfortunately, it was probably the one weekend of the entire year it rained! But that didn't dampen our spirits. La Playa is a gorgeous resort, rain or shine. We checked into our room decorated beautifully in elegant Florida-inspired decor with warm green and golden tones, a marble bath, fantastic view and their signature four-poster canopy beds with butterfly netting. After settling in, we ordered some coffee drinks from their restaurant, Baleen, and sat out on the covered balcony listening to the rain pitter-patter on the leafy palms while overlooking the gray, yet very calm ocean. With a hot cup of coffee in hand and a fresh coolness in the air, it was actually a perfect Florida Fall Day.
I borrowed an umbrella, took a walk on the beach, collected seashells and admired the handy sculpting work of a whimsical sand castle. Glancing up at the cloudy sky, I had to dance a little jig in gratitude for having the beach all to myself. Just in case you were wondering what La Playa looks like beaming in full sunlight, take a look at the pics they were kind enough to send me. You'll find gorgeous turquoise waters, two lagoon style pools, a spa and a cozy Adirondack chair fire pit perfect for a snuggling around at night.
La Playa is currently offering a "Frostbite Relief Package" if you'd like to exchange winter-white snow for white sands. They are also offering a special rate for Florida Residents who just want to getaway for the weekend. I'll have to head back down and take advantage of that soon now that the forecast calls for clear blue skies!
