Living in Florida for nearly 20 years, I'm surprised it's taken me this long to make a trip up to northwest Florida. I've come up this weekend to South Walton for the Seeing Red Wine Festival and to explore Northwest Florida's tastiest eats.
The area is known as the Emerald Coast, and looking out at the view from my balcony, I can see why. The water is quite literally a sparkling gemstone shade of emerald green and the sand is soft and white like sugar. I'm staying at the Hilton Sandestin and it seems every room has a balcony with this gorgeous view. It's the largest gulf-front hotel in northwest Florida and recently completed a $6.5 million renovation including expanding the outside deck areas, as well as adding a new beachside restaurant and bar. I'm really impressed at the spaciousness of the rooms which include a kitchenette, living area and large bathroom with two vanity areas. (No more fighting over sink space in the morning!)
The Hilton Sandestin is also one of the most socially connected hotels I've stayed in. You can find them on Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and they even have a blog. The friendly welcome, picture sharing and helpful tips you receive through those multiple channels will have you feeling like you're visiting a friend here on the coast.
I've got lots of neat places and restaurants on the agenda this weekend and I'll be sure to fill you in here on the blog to help with your vacation planning. In the meantime, follow along in real time on Twitter and Facebook.
