It's just been declared America's best beach by Dr. Beach himself, so you can bet that a lot of people will want to visit Siesta Key. That's why it's more important than ever to travel smart.

Here are some tips for saving money when you visit Siesta Key, courtesy of Kevin Cooper, executive director of the Siesta Key Chamber of Commerce.

  1. Come in the off season. Prices are highest during high season, from mid-February until Easter. Call your accommodation of choice and ask when rates are lowest – usually around August and September.
  2. Stop by the Chamber of Commerce. The front of the building serves as a visitors' center, with local volunteers ready to answer questions about where to find an affordable happy hour or cute beach clothes. About 20,000 visitors stop in every year for coupons on dining, golf, water sports and more. The chamber also carries menus from local restaurants, which sometimes include a stamp for a discounted meal. The chamber is at 5118 Ocean Boulrvard. Call 941-349-3800 or go to SiestaKeyChamber.com.
  3. Now let's go shopping! With all the money you've saved, you're due for some retail therapy. The entire island of Siesta Key is only eight miles long, so shopping is clustered into two districts: North Village and South Village. Both offer boutiques, restaurants and bars.
