Both experiences, from the food and the drinks to the service and the ambience, were spectacular.
Owner and Executive Chef John DeLucie of the New York hotspots The Lion and Waverly Inn just opened The Royal restaurant in December at The Raleigh Hotel, which is known for its pool, considered one of the world’s most beautiful. However the restaurant, situated in a lush outdoor garden with teak furniture and drop pendant lights hanging from tree branches, gives the pool a run for its money.
The menu features American classic fare and local, simple ingredients. I ordered a signature appetizer – the delicious Tuna Tartare with Dijon Emulsion and Kate and I shared a salad with Asian pear, pistachios and wild arugula.
Another signature menu item, my moist and juicy Chicken under a Brick entrée (it’s literally cooked under a brick), was served with crisp pancetta, cipollini onions and smoked apple. As for Kate’s entrée, she had the Braised Beef Short Ribs; I have never liked short ribs, until I tried these. They were amazing. So tender.
I should also mention that all that day, Kate and I had been racking our brains to come up with the perfect place she could bring her boyfriend for a romantic birthday dinner when he arrived in Miami later that week. As we were leaving The Royal, she made reservations to come back with him. Can’t wait to find out how it went.
