Select Americans will soon be able to fly directly from Tampa to that forbidden country, Cuba. On Monday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection approved TIA for direct charter flights to the island nation.
Travelers with relatives in Cuba and those involved in the medical or agricultural fields, and people traveling for educational or religious activities will be eligible to make the trip, the St. Petersburg Times reports.
Tampa International Airport will become only the fourth U.S. city with service to Cuba, joining Miami, New York and Los Angeles. The flights will begin in late summer or early fall.
I visited Cuba last spring with a group of journalists. If you're among the group approved to go there, then you're in for a one-of-a-kind travel experience.
