Unique Sunshine State Beach Activities

Soaking up some sun, splashing in the surf, and kicking back on the beach are all wonderful. But if you want to take your vacation to another level, read on. These Florida beach experiences will make you think outside of the sandbox.

Horse Surfing

Bet you’ve never ridden the waves like this before. Beach Horses starts off the fun with a beach ride by Palma Sola Bay in Bradenton on the back of a trusty steed. Next, they'll lead you into the water for a swim atop your horse. Then comes the big challenge--trying to stand up on your horse’s back in wither-high water. Prepare to get soaked!

Snuba

If you want to witness the wonders of the underwater world without time-consuming training and heavy equipment, this family-friendly adventure has your name on it. After about 15 minutes of orientation, you’ll be ready to breathe underwater. Enjoy this adventure with Destin Snorkel in northwest Florida or in The Florida Keys with Tilden Scuba.

Dolphin WaveRunner Tour

On this 90-minute guided Estero Island excursion off Fort Myers Beach, Holiday Watersports will teach you to ride a WaveRunner. You'll race through the Gulf of Mexico, explore the back bay and thrill to the sight of dolphins and other wildlife in their natural environment.

Seaplane Ride

Soar out of Key West on a seaplane tour to Dry Tortugas and Fort Jefferson, accessible only by plane or boat. On your flight with Key West Seaplane Adventures, you may spot rays, dolphins, enormous sea turtles and submerged ships in the clear waters below. This adventure includes snorkeling the reefs and exploring the fort.

Turtle Walks

Thanks to the Sea Turtle Preservation Society, during June and July of each year you can enjoy a guided night walk on Florida’s Atlantic coast in the Melbourne Beach area to learn about sea turtles. With any luck, you’ll get to witness a wild sea turtle complete her nesting process. Want to do more? Become a turtle walk guide, help turtles in distress or conduct nesting surveys.
