Premium Vodka Made in Florida, from Four Florida Orange Varieties

By: Kara Chalmers

Yes. This drink – called “Orange Crush” – tastes as good as it looks.

And I’d also like to try some other cocktails featuring 4 Orange Premium Vodka, a spirit distilled in Florida from four distinct varieties of Florida oranges grown in the groves of the Peace River basin.

4 Orange is the world’s first and only vodka made from Florida oranges (specifically, Parson Brown, Temple, Valencia and Hamlin varieties).

Made at a distillery (Florida's first registered distillery) in Lake Alfred, near Orlando, the crystal-clear vodka is 40 percent alcohol by volume (80 proof). Each bottle contains the equivalent of 20 Florida oranges.

After looking through the cocktail recipes on the 4 Orange website, my husband and I decided to try Orange Crush, pictured. The vodka itself has a natural orange flavor and a delicate orange blossom aroma, so we thought the addition of mint and lime would result in a delicious concoction. We were right.

4 Orange is served at restaurants and bars statewide (and in other states, as well). It can be purchased for about $25 at Total Wine & More, ABC Fine Wine & Spirits, Crown Wine & Spirits and other stores.

Below I included the recipe for Orange Crush. To find out how to make other cocktails, like Pink Flamingo, Sun Sophisticate and Grove Stand, click

Orange Crush

  • 1.5oz 4 Orange Premium Vodka
  • orange slices
  • lime, quartered
  • .5oz simple syrup
  • mint leaves
  • 2oz club soda

Muddle orange, lime, simple syrup and mint in a mixing glass. Add vodka and shake with ice. Pour contents into a double rocks glass. Top with club soda.

Also, I just want to note that 4 Orange is a "green" product. Find out more here.

I'm going out to find it here in central NY. If I had known about it I would have looked for it while I was in Florida
