Anna Maria Island: One of Florida's Best Kept Secrets

By: Jill Martin

Anna Maria Island is one of those places in Florida that you may have never heard of – and that's because those who've been here would like to selfishly keep its pristine shores and welcoming beach town attitude to themselves!

It's been described as the perfect family vacation spot – and I'd have to agree – with its white sand beaches and laid back atmosphere. There are also many activities for families nearby. Take a look:

  • Desoto National Memorial has lots of programs for kids, including a landing by Desoto himself each April.

  • South Florida Museum in Bradenton (home of Snooty the Manatee, celebrating his 63rd birthday July 21)

  • Mote Aquarium in Sarasota is excellent for children with its two touch tanks along with manatees, dolphins, turtles and sharks.

One of my favorite places to stay in this area is Palm Tree Villas. They have studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom units, heavenly beds, and their units have kitchens. Did I mention they have a sparkling pool and are just a two minute walk to the beach? Call 941-778-0910 or 1-888-778-7256 for reservations and information, or log on to their website. See you there!
