Shelling 101 Workshops at the Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum on Sanibel Island

By: Lauren Tjaden

Love the seashore, but don’t know a Ring Top Cowrie from a Florida Fighting Conch?

The folks at the famed Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum can help. Located on Sanibel Island – legendary for shelling - the famed museum offers ‘Shelling 101’ workshops free with paid admission to the museum every Monday and Tuesday.

It’s a super way to snag the scoop on the sweetest spots for shell hunting, the time of day that's best for shell collection, what to bring with you on your shelling expeditions and more. The museum also offers ‘Walk the Beach with the Experts Free Family Beach Walks’ the last Tuesday of each month.

Never been to the museum?  That’s as sad as a mashed mollusk! (Is that too graphic?) It’s interesting and teaches you a ton, in the most entertaining way imaginable. Check out this little video I shot there and you’ll see what I mean.
