Spirited Stories Come to Life during Ghost Tours in Charlotte Harbor

By: Hilda Mitrani

There’s a traditional Scottish prayer that I used to recite. It goes like this:

   From ghoulies and ghosties
   And long-leggedy beasties
And things that go bump in the night,
   Good Lord, deliver us!

And yet, at Halloween, many of us human types go seeking the ghostly ones. To the delight of Southwest Florida thrill seekers, Charlotte Harbor and the Gulf Islands have lots to offer in the realm of the paranormal.

In the historic, artsy county seat, a tour called the Historic Ghost Tours of Punta Gorda stops by the place where a town founder visits his portrait. Later on, the tour follows a trail where ships were seen to come sailing, only to disappear without a trace.

This spellbinding, lantern-guided walking tour is led by a master storyteller and paranormal investigator named Erin Broemel. She covers a history of psychic phenomenon in Punta Gorda, Port Charlotte, Charlotte Harbor and Englewood dating back hundreds of years.

Meanwhile, tours of historic Indian Springs Cemetery – aptly called Holiday Fright! - focus on the paranormal activity recorded there over the years. In this, the final resting place of many area founders, there's even the tombstone of a former Florida governor.

Best of all, spirited discounts await those who mention the Ghost of the White Pelican Special, a buy one, get one (BOGO) deal on two adult tickets. Normally $10 per adult, mention the white pelicans and get two for $10!
