Car trips are in vogue once again, and Tarpon Springs is an easy drive from most of Florida. I enjoy my visits to this Greek community immensely. From the food to the bustling activity beside the sponge docks, it’s easy to get in the vacation spirit here.
At a Greek event, dancing circles happen spontaneously. That's especially true at the monthly Night in the Islands celebration. If you’ve been bashful about joining in, here’s your chance to hone your skills in advance.
Greek dance will be taught every Wednesday evening beginning Sept. 22 through Nov. 17 at the Cultural Center. The classes are taught by Dr. Mary Coros, director of the well-known Levendia Dance Troupe. The drop-in rate is just $10, and it will surely get you ready for fall's Night in the Islands celebrations on Sept. 18, Oct. 2 and Nov. 13.
If you ask me, the best part of Greek dancing is that you burn calories and perhaps enjoy that second piece of spanakopita or baklava!
