The fittest of Florida's fit will push their bodies to the limit Saturday when the 5th Annual Venice Triathlon launches from Sharky's on the Pier in Venice. The Venice YMCA sets it all up, and this could be a very cool thing to check out if you're in the area.
Now if you were to isolate any one of the triathlon's three components - swimming, running and bicycle riding - you could have a lovely day of exercise, but that's not exactly what happens here. Some 400 competitors will endure a 400 meter swim in the Gulf of Mexico, fllowed immediately by a 9 mile bike ride on a closed, flat course, and then finish with a 5K run alongside Caspersen Beach. Man, my fingers are sore from just typing all of that.
The registration period has closed, so you'll have to be content with not pushing your body to its very brink of physical exhaustion, and simpy enjoying a lemonade while watching the race. For more details, go here.
