Exciting news, dudes and dudettes-- professional basketball is making a return to Jacksonville! The Jacksonville Giants will play their first game in just a matter of weeks, as the ABA's newest franchise tips off their first home game Saturday, Dec. 4, at Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.

The team is still shaping up, but here's what we know so far:

  • Schedule - 15 home games, 15 away
  • Players - Height will not be a problem, with two 7-footers on the team, along with guard Anthony Lumpkin, who last year was named the #22 best player not in the NBA*
  • Coach - Kevin Waters, former Assistant Coach with Edward Waters College
  • Owner - Ron Sholes, a local attorney

I'll let you know more about tickets as we get closer to the start of the season.

* True Fact: This year I was named the #738,448 best player not to be in the NBA.  That's down from 737,212 last year, but still, not too shabby.
