A few weeks ago, I was visiting Miami and had the chance to meet one of my VISIT FLORIDA colleagues, Family Insider Jill Martin, in person. What a treat! And adding to the fun was this lovely Design District restaurant, MaiTardi, where we decided to rendezvous.
MaiTardi is predominantly an outdoor space, shaded by giant oak trees and buffered by mosaic tiled walls and columns that create all sorts of interesting spots to dine. The indoor dining area has a few tables and is very stylish, too. But on a balmy South Florida night, outside is really the spot to be.
The menu here has all sorts of Italian deliciousness, from wood-baked pizzas and flat breads to squid ink risotto (to die for) and vegetarian entrees with quinoa and local greens.
The Design District is serious hipster-ville in Miami, but the prices here were such a pleasant surprise. Dinner for two, with drinks and appetizers, won't cost you more than $60. Jill and I even had room to share the tiramisu for dessert. I hear weekend brunch at MaiTardi is a real neighborhood affair, with people arriving with their kids and dogs in tow. Weekend nights take on more of a lounge vibe, with DJs spinning Motown and chilled out tunes.
