Letting go in Marco

This summer, my family took a mini-vacation at the Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort. During our wonderfully relaxing long weekend at this lavish resort, possibly my most memorable experience was the massage I indulged in at the resort’s Balinese-style spa. It was one of the best spa treatments I’ve ever had. And it left me cool, calm and collected for the rest of the weekend.

I arrived at the spa early to take advantage of all the extras guests receive when they book a service – a long hot shower with the spa’s sweet-smelling lemongrass bath products, time in the sauna, steam room and hot tub, and a cup of tea in the lounge. By the time my masseuse came to get me, reclined on a chaise with my feet up, I was already feeling pretty peaceful.

The spa offers all types of massages, such as the classic Swedish, deep-tissue, hot stone and hydro. The spa’s signature Balinese massage encompasses the techniques of acupressure, rolling motion, long strokes and percussion. There’s even a Bamboo Therapy massage, which uses warm bamboo to reach deep muscle layers.

Sound overwhelming? It wasn’t. The spa staffers were really helpful – they’re experts at figuring out which massage would be best for you. And if massages aren’t your thing, there’s a wide array of facials, masks, body scrubs and wraps as well as the spa’s special “Bali Baths,” which come in various “flavors,” such as milk and honey or lavender and rose petal.

The spa also houses a full salon, a state-of-the-art fitness center, café, pool and a shop where bath and beauty products are sold… including the spa’s signature lemongrass products that I love so much.
