Valentine's Day is quickly approaching, and you're wondering what you can do to make this day most memorable for the special love of your life, right? Well, Florida has lots of great options for an unforgettable Valentine's Day that's bound to make it a memorable chapter in your personal love story.
Believe me, I'm one of the most discriminating, hard-to-please, you better give that gift like you mean it Valentine's around. Atta boys don't come easy around these parts. But, if my husband were to come home with any of these romantic adventures planned for Valentine's Day, I'd be head-over-heels happy.
Here's my top five favorite Valentine's Day getaway suggestions:
Surprise her with a sunset at the Southernmost Point: Key West is the continental United States' southernmost geographic point, and, I swear the sunset there is always just a little more special. Valentine's Day falls on a Sunday this year. Surprise your sweetheart with a romantic weekend getaway to Key West. If you take care of all of the details, you'll make her day: Line up a babysitter, make reservations, find great places to eat like Kelly's and cool places to dance like Mallory Square and fall in love all over again.
Be his best girl with a trip to Boca Grande: We Floridians are willing to share this well kept secret spot with fishermen everywhere. Boca Grande is a seafaring man's dream. Make a plan to find Old Florida in this quaint and lovely escape set sweetly on Gasparilla Island -- about halfway between Fort Myers and Sarasota. Seven miles of Sandy beach and the best fishing of his life wait for you with this romantic getaway. In Boca Grande the fishing's great all year round, but February can get a little chilly. One of the local fishing guides can help you fish the back country for snook or trout and then you can head over to PJ's Seagrille for a romantic fine dining experience.
A shopping spree is always fun: If you really want to make your darling smile, take her out shopping for awhile. A South Florida shopping tour would be a wonderful way to spend Valentine's Day weekend. If I were you, I'd start in Palm Beach on Worth Avenue and stay at the world-famous Breakers Resort on Friday night, then rent a convertible and work your way down Route 1 to South Beach for some Bal Harbour buying. This is like the all-time fantasy Valentine's Day -- the stuff of legends. You'll go down in the best date ever book for sure!
If Inland luxury is more your thing: Try out the new Waldorf Astoria in Orlando. Just recently opened, this beautiful resort boasts some of the Sunshine State's finest amenities. Orlando is a great spot to get away for a romantic weekend. With great shopping, sports and entertainment to keep you busy, literally every second of Valentine's Day.
It just doesn't get any better than Jacksonville: The romantic options in North Florida abound and nowhere is this more true than in Jacksonville, where serene sunsets dance across the Atlantic Ocean every night. One of my favorite romantic stops in the Jacksonville area is the One Ocean Resort Hotel & Spa. Perfectly tucked away on beautiful Jacksonville Beach, this full-service resort is the epitome of Florida elegance. At One Ocean Resort, you'll lose yourself in the experience and rediscover the many reasons your Valentine is your Valentine. It'll be a blast!
No matter your choice, if you choose to spend Valentine's Day in Florida, you'll have a wonderful experience that will not only make your sweetheart's heart flutter, but will make your day a happy one as well.
Sending lots of Florida love!
