There was a time when the makeup case was as important as the makeup. And you can harken back to that elegant era with a look at this interesting exhibit at the Elliott Museum in Stuart.

The Compact History exhibit showcases vintage sterling silver, enameled ladies' compact cases amassed by Joyce Jones Wells, a local Stuart resident and collector, during trips to Europe and countless visits to antique stores over more than 40 years.

You'll see more than 65 pieces on display, including dainty pill cases, cigarette cases and lipstick cases from the 19th and early 20th centuries valued anywhere from $200 to $3,000 apiece.

For anyone who appreciates beauty in small, dainty and detailed packages with a fashionable twist, this display is a must-see!
