Our dining, entertainment & luxury insider, Kara Chalmers, is getting ready to have her second child (any day now)! This fact got me to thinking about traveling with little ones. Read on to find out how to make traveling with babies much easier and even enjoyable.
Baby Friendly Resorts
Marriott and many of their brands (Courtyard, Fairfield Inn & Suites, Residence Inn, Springhill Suites and TownePlace Suites) offer handy baby items like free travel cribs with COVERPLAY® covers, nightlights, squirting tub toys, outlet covers, disposable bibs and more. All you have to do is ASK! That’s right. Just ask at their front desk at over 2500 hotels and they will hook you up. The program is called Tots Travel Too.
Club Med Sandpiper in Port St. Lucie has a kids program for babies, children and teens (4 months to 17 years old). At the front desk, you’ll find strollers, bathtubs, bottle warmers, potty trainers, steps and safety kits at your disposal. In addition, this resort is all-inclusive (the only one in Florida that I know of).
Baby Rental Equipment
I can remember the days of loading up the car with the Pack n Play®, the big stroller, the umbrella stroller, oodles of diapers, wipes, I think we even took the Diaper Genie once. (Ok, I know we took the Diaper Genie, I’m just embarrassed that we actually did!) But thank goodness, there is a way to make new parents’ lives much easier. There are baby rental equipment companies all over Florida. Check out this impressive list.
Way Cool Products
Now, there are literally thousands of great products for babies these days, but for traveling in Florida, here are my favorites. First up, have you seen Table Toppers? These are great! They’re disposable placemats that stick in place (keeping germs and bacteria on the table and a clean place to place Cheerios and such). We used them constantly and I still keep a few in my travel bag. And if your kids like to use Play-doh, these work perfectly to protect your table from clay, markers and more.
Coolibar offers sun protective hats and clothing for everyone from little ones to adults. Check out their smart protective gear.
Music! Babies love music! And if you’re a Buffett fan (aka a Parrot Head) you have to get the Parakeet CD. It has ten favorite Jimmy Buffett songs sung by children, like Cheeseburger in Paradise (and made very family friendly). I always give it as a gift to new parents (oops, Kara, I just spoiled the surprise)! You AND your kids will love it. Honestly, it’s a child’s CD that you will actually enjoy listening too – even after 100 times.
Have you had a great experience traveling in Florida with your tot? Let me know. We'll share your success! Special thanks to my friend Aida for sharing her kids' photo taken by ninifoto. Love it!
