I fell in love with Delray Beach a few years back when I decided to take the coastal route, A1A, north from Fort Lauderdale and happened upon this adorable beach town with terrific dining and shopping...and one of the prettiest east coast beaches I'd ever seen! So I was thrilled last fall when a new luxury boutique hotel opened just a few blocks from the beach.
The Seagate Hotel & Spa is Delray's first boutique luxury hotel. Wondering what that means? Well, after my recent stay here, I interpret luxury boutique hotel as meaning a very decadent property that doesn't feel like a chain. Really, it was all the unusual touches of the hotel--the moray eels swimming in salt water aquariums and pretty glass lamps with shell motifs lighting the hallways--that set it apart from chain hotels.
The first thing you should know about the hotel is that it is not oceanfront. Rather, it sits on the beach end of Ocean Avenue, Delray's main drag that's lined with cafes and boutiques. The beach is only a two-minute walk away. And when you're staying at the hotel, you get access to The Seagate Beach Club,a members-only club with an oceanfront pool, casual and fine dining restaurants and a pretty beachfront with lounges available to guests.
I love a hotel that is popular with locals, and this is exactly that kind of place. The restaurant, Atlantic Grille, is a very happening scene and hosts a popular piano player and singer (a regular Billy Joel!) every Thurs., Fri. and Sat. night. The food was excellent here, too--Iots of flopping fresh Florida seafood.
Enough of my exaltations! I've attached so many photos from The Seagate Hotel & Spa, and I think they really speak for the place. Have a look!
