TradeWinds Island Resorts add tropical flair to this family-friendly beach.

Two white swans cross your path as you paddle the meandering waterway winding through the Tradewinds Island Grand Resort on St. Pete Beach, selected as one the nation's top beaches by TripAdvisor.

Sunlight dances on a sparkling blue pool, one of many on property, while your children play on a giant three-story inflated slide resting on the white sandy beach.

Sound like the ultimate getaway?

The short walk to the Flying Bridge Restaurant gives you another view of the picturesque waterway, full of bright koi fish darting around just beneath the surface. You will pass the Sharktooth Tavern, where a colorful parrot and an equally colorful pirate, Captain RedBeard, await a picture-taking moment. The Captain will invite you into the Tavern, where your kids can create their own buccaneer necklace. Captain RedBeard is featured once to twice a week, depending on the season. Lunch and the slide have to wait just a little bit longer.

From relaxing at the Body Works Salon and Spa, to napping beachside in a hammock, to kicking back on a sunset sail (offered by nearby Dolphin Village), and to RumFish Beach Resort, another TradeWinds resort just steps away from TradeWinds Island Grand, there are endless ways to spend your time luxuriating and having a blast.

The RumFish Beach Resort features The SandBox Beach Lounge, with VIP Cabanas, signature drinks, live entertainment and a fire pit where you can enjoy Campfire S'Mores in the evening. The RumFish also has a large selection of merchandise, art and gifts from local Florida brands and artists.

RumFish Grill showcases a 33,500-gallon aquarium featured on Animal Planet’s hit show “Tanked,” indoor/outdoor bars, live entertainment and a retail store carrying the area’s largest selection of Guy Harvey merchandise. Guests can even snorkel in the aquarium (Swim with the Fishes).

Stay at one resort and you get to enjoy all activities, recreation and restaurants at either. Your Resort Amenity Fee in allows unlimited access to many resort activities. In other words, it’s your children’s best friend.

The afternoon winds down to a dip in the hot tub, a refreshing drink at the beach bar and a splash in the children's wading pool. Unwind with any body of water you choose.

Your comfy suite will overlook the Gulf of Mexico, and its balcony is the perfect place to plan the late afternoon's events. Try the KONK Club (Kids Only, No Kidding), where the kids will be watched and entertained.

Bermudas, one of the resort's many restaurants, is a great family dining option because it offers a casual and friendly atmosphere, along with a breathtaking view of the Gulf. Also, the menu is inviting for both adults and children. The Palm Court Italian Grill, a more upscale establishment, is perfect for couples.

While more time on the ever-popular slide is a must (slide time is unlimited with your stay), playing a round of mini golf and a jump on the trampoline also are hits for kids.

Another fun thing to do is an exciting excursion on a WaveRunner, which can be rented (along with kayaks, paddle boats and other experiences) beachside from SunSports. (Although a shopping trip to the Historic Corey Avenue Shopping District, located right in the heart of St. Pete Beach, comes in as a close second.)
