Dade City's large oak trees and old-Florida appeal make it a great spot for vacationing history buffs.

Tucked amid the lush rolling hills of Eastern Pasco County, just 30 minutes north of Tampa, lies the charming town of Dade City. As visitors stroll through Dade City's downtown, the enchantment of Old Florida is evoked by the architecture of early 20th-century cottages and numerous antique, gift and specialty stores - all within easy walking distance of each other.

Take a break from shopping at one of Dade City's eclectic lunch spots, which offer a spectrum of culinary styles from traditional Southern home-style cooking to international fare including Italian and Mexican. After a full day of activities and sightseeing, spend the evening lounging on the veranda of a quaint turn-of-the-century vacation rental.

Known for its large oak trees and old-world appeal, Dade City is imbued with the rich history of Old Florida. Located a mile from downtown and nestled on a wooded hillside, the Pioneer Florida Museum and Village is a tribute to the lives of early pioneer Floridians. Its featured exhibits include a steam-powered locomotive, letters and war treasures dating back to the Civil War, and numerous historic buildings. The Historic Pasco County Courthouse is a historic and architectural highlight. For vacationing history buffs, this courthouse should not be missed.

With a quaint historic downtown and miles of unspoiled lands for fishing, camping, cycling and hiking, Dade City offers visitors both a taste of Florida's rich history and a tranquil setting in which to unwind.
