Jewelry, coffee and French toast. These three of my favorite things were combined into one perfect morning in Grayton Beach, an laid-back town that is home to South Walton's 2012 Artist of the Year, Allison Craft. I had the opportunity to catch up with her at Hibiscus Coffee & Guest House, which not only has the best breakfast in South Walton, but also hosts a collaborative of artists in their garden art gallery, 30A Studio.
After filling up on coffee and cinnamon roll french toast (after all, one can't shop on an empty stomach), I walked the short stone pathway to Allison's studio to browse her enticing collection of leather and pearl jewelry. Allison's work is very natural and elemental, incorporating smooth, milky-white iridescent pearls with hand knotted leather strands into beautiful necklaces, bracelets and charms.
Allison's unique jewelry has been special ordered by celebrities and recently her "Trinity" necklace was featured in Everyday with Rachael Ray magazine. My personal favorite is her Transitions piece because it can be wrapped around the wrist and worn as a bracelet or adjusted to wear as a necklace. Its elegant, yet casual, design and versatility makes it perfect for a traveler like me who wants to pack light, but still have fun jewelry to wear.
While Allison's work can be found in shops throughout South Walton, her jewelry can also be found online at www.AllisonCraftDesigns.com.
