Beaches & Adventure Question

Interesting Activities off-the-beaten Track?

Interesting Activities off-the-beaten Track?

We are an extended family of 5 siblings with 9 grandchildren (ages 7-22) who will be visiting the Tampa-Orlando area for a family wedding from March 10-17. Could you suggest some interesting activities off the beaten track? Also where could we by discounted tickets for Busch Gardens and Disney world?

Official Insider Advice

Hi Brenda,

Oh, there's lots to do. Since you say off-the-beaten track, I assume going to the beach is already on the agenda – right? (You HAVE to do that!!) Here is a link to my FAQ page that has info on the beaches on both coasts that are closest to Orlando.

For things that people don't usually do, here are some fun suggestions. Try:

  • Tandem hang gliding at Quest Air in Groveland (west of Orlando).
  • Horse surfing in Bradenton (by Tampa)
  • A Balloon ride over Orlando
  • A visit to Fantasy of Flight in Polk City (their 'Living History' Series is incredible)
  • Mountain biking the Santos Trails (less than an hour north of Orlando)
  • Wake boarding at the cable park at the Orlando Watersports Complex
  • Kayaking through Silver Springs

Also, check out this blog I wrote called 'Adventure Alphabet' with tons of suggestions for activities and links of places to do them (which includes most of the adventures I listed above here).

Also, here's a link to advice from VISIT FLORIDA's Family Insider on how to snag discounted theme park tickets.

Have a great trip and a wonderful wedding.

Lauren Tjaden
