Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill UpdateNOAA announced today that a new analysis shows Southern Florida, the Florida Keys, and the East Coast are unlikely to experience any effects from the remaining oil on the surface of the Gulf as a result of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The furthest east Florida has seen impacts from the oil spill is just east of the Gulf/Bay County line. Although sporadic sightings of tar balls have been reported, Northwest Florida's shoreline is not expected to receive additional impacts over the next 72 hours. Nearly 90 percent of Florida's more than 1,260 miles of coastline remains unimpacted. |
