Your day doesn't end at sunset, so why should your vacation? Continue the fun late into the night at dance clubs and other hot spots in the Orlando area.
At CityJazz, you'll find artifacts, memorabilia and rare instruments from legendary jazz greats. But don't let the moniker mislead you. You can get your groove on at this Universal CityWalk nightspot, as you bounce and boogie to high-energy, old school R&B and top 40 music. Offering a full bar and a great light foods menu, CityJazz also features live bands and featured artists including a hypnotist on Sunday nights. If you're courageous enough to sing outside the shower, try your hand at the Ultimate Karaoke party on Monday evenings. You can be the "star," live on the CityJazz stage. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, the laughs never stop when Bonkerz Comedy Club takes over the place, featuring national comedians from television and movie fame.

If you're a die-hard fan and enthusiast of that 70's decade, "keep on truckin" to 8 Trax in Downtown Disney's Pleasure Island. Upon arriving, guests are immediately transported back three decades at this upbeat, retro nightspot, where it's all about lava lamps, disco balls and everything 70's. Relive your polyester days while you get down on the disco dance floor and shake your groove thing late into the night to the sounds of nostalgic tunes that defined an era rife with monster afros, Travolta wannabes and platform shoes.
The BET Soundstage Club, also on Pleasure Island, is one of Orlando's leading dance clubs. This venue is a favorite hot spot among 20- and 30-somethings who come to jam to the latest popular hip-hop and R&B music by artists regularly profiled on BET, the popular cable network. There's plenty of room to move and groove, as the club provides two levels for dancing. State-of-the-art lighting, huge video screens and a powerful, booming sound system put dancers in a trance and make this place jump into the wee hours. The Soundstage often features live performances by the industry's hottest stars. Stop in any night from Thursday to Saturday, and you could participate in a live BET telecast.
In downtown Orlando, check out the Orlando Improv, a comedy club and restaurant on historic Church Street. The club hosts "Apollo Night" - a takeoff on the popular Apollo Theatre talent show - every Tuesday, and features big-name comic geniuses such as Tommy Davidson and comedic legends like Paul Mooney.
In the mood to dress to impress? Then don your Versace cocktail dress or finest Perry Ellis suit, and step to the Blue Martini. This hip "in-spot" has just the right ambience for a fun, energetic night with friends, or a romantic evening for two. Located at the Mall at Millennia, this contemporary upscale hangout serves a mean Cosmopolitan - and a multitude of other exquisite-yet-pricey martinis. There's nightly live entertainment with a healthy mix of pop, top 40, R&B and smooth jazz - all in a high-end, yet laid-back setting.
Winter Park's Black Fin offers the best of both worlds - five-star quality seafood and a thriving, intimate social environment. Here the theme is casual elegance. You'll find a lively professional crowd, and even livelier entertainment. Featuring a wide range of music, from jazz to contemporary dance music, the Black Fin is one of the area's truly inviting adult establishments - a quiet and unassuming place catering to the mature, over-35 and socially adept crowd.
If you're seeking a great place to network and let your hair down, you'll enjoy Dexter's of Thornton Park. An Orlando institution for years, this eclectic and artsy bistro offers upscale dining with a casual, relaxed feel. Enjoy happy hour on the cozy outdoor patio while pairing fine wine with imported cheeses. Visitors rave about the chef's nightly catch specials. Make sure to try Dexter's famous homemade sweet chips. Thinly sliced, seasoned and flash-fried, these sweet potato chips are the restaurant's specialty - a sinfully addictive snack that you can eat plain or dip in sweet chili sauce. They work the same magic with regular Idaho spuds. The big chip companies have nothing on this recipe!
No matter where the night takes you in Orlando, you're guaranteed to have fun. This city in the heart of Florida has a whole host of nightlife spots, offering something for everyone, whatever your speed. |
