An African-American high school for Wakulla County was constructed as an addition to the Shadeville Elementary School. After providing education to black students for 36 years, Shadeville was closed due to school desegregation in 1967. It is theoldest educational site used by the school board; the school was granted to the school board in 1909. A monument was placed at the site in 1992 by Shadeville High School Alumni.
