Lago Mar Resort and Club in Fort Lauderdale gives Florida residents a big vacation experience – yet it’s just a car ride away.

Want to jet away to a luxurious destination that feels worlds away, but don’t want the hassle of plane tickets, passports and rental cars? Lago Mar Resort and Club in Fort Lauderdale gives Florida residents a big vacation experience – yet it’s just a car ride away.

At Lago Mar, an award-winning resort overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, indulge in spa treatments, sip cool drinks on a private beach or dine on lobster tail with truffle sauce at the fine-dining restaurant. Shop at the resort’s sophisticated boutique or explore the lively city scene of nearby Las Olas Boulevard, which is bustling with hip shops and sidewalk cafes.

Plus, escaping to this tropical oasis won’t empty your pocketbook. Save hundreds of dollars with the resort’s summer specials.

At Lago Mar, hang out for a long weekend – or as long as you like.

The family-owned, boutique-style Lago Mar Resort and Club is a AAA Four-Diamond property that Zagat consistently rates one of Fort Lauderdale’s best resorts.

Relaxing in Style

Nestled in an exclusive neighborhood between Lake Mayan and the Atlantic Ocean, Lago Mar is surrounded by lush gardens and sandy beaches. The family-owned, boutique-style resort is a AAA Four-Diamond property that Zagat consistently rates one of Fort Lauderdale’s best resorts.

Upon arrival, drop off your car with the complimentary valet and enter the lobby, which features exquisite mosaics, a limestone hearth and an aquarium. The resort has 204 rooms and suites, all of which have flat-screen TVs, granite bathroom countertops and Tommy Bahama-inspired furniture.

Summer specials are in full swing and run through Oct. 24. Room rates begin at $155, and for an additional $10 a night, receive two breakfast buffets per day (offers subject to change; call ahead for details).

In your room, step onto the balcony and enjoy the view, or curl up on the pillow-top mattress and nap. A plush robe waits in the closet.

Delectable Dining & Entertainment

Sunscreen in hand, set out to explore the resort’s 500 feet of golden sands (Lago Mar is home to the largest private beach in Fort Lauderdale). Build sandcastles and watch sailboats slice through turquoise waters as the ocean breeze cools your sun-kissed skin.

Attendants are on hand to distribute beach towels and help set up your chair. If you’re thirsty, order a freshly prepared frozen drink, which is hand-delivered to your chair.

Afterward, cool off in one of two pools, which are surrounded by palm trees and orchids, or treat yourself at the full-service spa. Choose from a plethora of pampering services and specials, such as the ultra-popular Slice of Heaven package, which includes a warm oil scalp massage, a Swedish massage and moisturizing hand and foot reflexology for just $249.

Other resort activities include a putting course, a giant outdoor chessboard, tennis courts, shuffleboard, playground and state-of-the-art fitness center. Fashionistas also should peruse The Resort Shop, an upscale boutique that offers Lilly Pulitzer dresses and Costa Del Mar sunglasses.

Even the most discerning palates find pleasure within the resort’s dining options. Sample pancetta wrapped filet mignon, fresh pasta and cappuccino mocha cheesecake at Acquario, the hotel’s signature fine-dining restaurant. As part of the summer specials, the restaurant offers a four-course dinner for $30. In addition, kids 12 and under eat free at dinner for every adult entrée purchased.

You also can grab a quick bite at the Ocean Grill, Promenade Bar or Soda Shop, or linger over lunch on the Seagrape Terrace, which serves up jumbo lump crab and langoustine cakes with lemon lobster sauce.

And, if you don’t want to leave the comforts of your room, there’s always 24-hour room service.

Lively City Scene

Though Lago Mar feels like a secluded retreat, elite shops and restaurants are just minutes away. Indulge in retail therapy in the heart of Fort Lauderdale on Las Olas Boulevard. The charming riverfront thoroughfare is home to chic boutiques, galleries and restaurants.

Or, if malls are your forte, check out The Galleria Mall, where stores include J. Crew, Kate Spade and Swarovski.

During evenings in July, grab a spot on the Las Olas lawn and catch a movie under the stars. Selections include “E.T.” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” Satisfy your sweet tooth with ice cream from Kilwin’s Chocolate & Ice Cream. Or, get your feet moving at Mangos Restaurant & Lounge.

Lago Mar Resort and Club combines the best of both worlds. For Florida residents, it’s easy to get to – and it’s filled with worldly luxuries.
