Sebastian's outdoor activities and nature excursions satisfy the active vacationer.

Sebastian is one of Florida's authentic Treasure Coast communities and the famous home of America's First National Wildlife Refuge, Pelican Island.

Bordered on the west by the headwaters of the St. John's River, adjacent to the Barrier Island and Atlantic Ocean, it nestles quietly between Vero Beach and Melbourne on the Indian River Lagoon. A walk along Sebastian's riverfront takes you past old fish houses whose salty aromas recall times past, dockside restaurants where a view of the famous pelican is guaranteed and marinas harboring pleasure boats of all sizes. Sebastian is noted for its excellent fishing, surfing and watersport activities.

Vestiges of 18th century Spanish culture can be visited at the various historical and archaeological museums in the area. Bald eagles, one-third of the manatees in the United States, and 200-300 pound loggerhead turtles can be seen from the Indian River Lagoon.

For kayakers, the Sebastian River is a trip through pristine wilderness. A boardwalk nature trail through the Environmental Learning Center offers a view of mangroves, thousands of species of animals, fish, birds and over 36 rare or endangered animal species.
