A small city in the suburban area of Miami with great diversity.
Whether getting away from it all brings you gliding through the Everglades in a canoe at dawn, snorkeling in a school of neon-bright fish, or dressing up for an evening out in nearby cosmopolitan Miami, Homestead welcomes you to find your getaway. The area's diversity is its strength, truly offering visitors a chance to do it all or do nothing at all amidst some of the most captivating scenery in the country.
Homestead/Florida City, made famous after being hit by 1992's devastating Hurricane Andrew, is the hub of the area defined as Tropical South Florida. The area is proud of its rebuilding efforts, with the communities back better than ever before. It is an agricultural paradise where visitors can spend an entire day sampling fresh-from-the-farm. The area is also home to great family-owned attractions that recall simpler times. Monkey Jungle, Everglades Alligator Farm with its thrilling airboat rides and the truly offbeat Coral Castle are among a few.
Ten miles to the west of Homestead lie the endless wetlands and sawgrass prairies of Everglades National Park, the only ecosystem of its kind in the world, deemed an International Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site.
