Canoe or kayak through this unspoiled estuary where numerous species of wildlife can be seen.

Charlotte County is blessed with two pristine freshwater rivers, the Peace River and Myakka River, which flow into the saltwater environs of Charlotte Harbor and Lemon Bay, that in turn flow into the Gulf of Mexico. The estuary created by the mixing of these bodies of freshwater and saltwater spreads over 270 square miles and is an important ecological breeding ground for numerous fish, bird and animal species.

One of the best ways to experience this wonderfully unspoiled back-to-nature area is through canoeing and kayaking, but if you prefer, a number of boat charter services are also available specializing in sightseeing, bird watching, nature and sunset cruises.

Charlotte Harbor & the Gulf Islands has emerged as one of the world's top sport fishing destinations. From back bay fishing in the shallows to deep sea excursions in the Gulf of Mexico, Charlotte's incredible diversity of spectacular fishing is hooking anglers from around the world. Tarpon, snook, redfish, barracuda, cobia, grouper and many other species of sport and game fish commute between the Gulf of Mexico and Charlotte Harbor.
