The characteristic weather is perfect for the event Brandon is most well known for - the annual Brandon Balloon Classic. This event, held every April, is a two-day celebration that includes over 50 hot air balloons from all over the country. Brandon has come a long way since the late 1850's, when John Brandon and his family came to the area from Mississippi and started it all with 40 acres of land and a secluded dirt road. That land and dirt road eventually became the town of Brandon and the main highway, and the city's growth has only continued to grow in leaps and bounds over the years. If a serene lifestyle in a gracious and friendly setting is your idea of a terrific Florida vacation, then Brandon is the place to be.
A good place to take in the colorful overview of the area is at the Tampa Bay History Center, a regional history museum of the area's rich culture and diverse heritage.
