With 19th century architecture, scenic walks along the river and a downtown area to stroll, Arcadia offers a tranquil spot for a quiet vacation.

Originally a frontier gateway to southwest Florida, Arcadia has survived turbulent wars, disastrous fires, and boomtown expansion. The area has preserved its 19th century architecture and Old Florida charm from early colonial settlements along the Peace River Valley. The Peace River provides a number of scenic walks and canoe trips for those who can appreciate rushing rapids and complacently clear ponds.

Many of the historic homes and businesses were restored and placed on the Registry of Historic Places in 1984, and Arcadia became a Main Street city in 1985. With more than 370 homes and businesses in the Arcadia Historic District, a leisurely stroll through the residential and downtown streets of Arcadia reveals the southern colonial charm and natural beauty of one of Central West Florida's gems.
